Exhibition portrays victims of acid attacks

In April, German photographer Ann-Christine Woehrl visited our partner organisation Acid Survivors Foundation India where she did a photo session with acid and burn survivors from Kolkata. These photos along with those from five other countries are now on display in her exhibition “UN/VISIBLE” at the Ethnological Museum of Munich until January 2015 as well as featured in a hardback book.“My concern is for women who have become invisible in their cultures, to be made visible again,” Woehrl said , who has spent much time with the women portrayed and admired their strength. The images of the exhibition will be accompanied by original texts of interviews. “Today is my personal Independence Day” says Neehaari from the village Puligadda in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. “From now on I will not hide anymore.”
